This unit will allow well-qualified students, who are already familiar with material in existing optional or core units, or for whom it is educationally appropriate, to undertake study in a specialist area. Teaching will usually be by directed reading, and assessment will usually be by project work. Possibilities for areas include further study of Medical Statistics; Time Series; Multivariate Analysis; and introductions to Extreme Values; Queuing Theory; Spatial Processes; Non-parametric and Semi-parametric methods.
There are no prerequisites for this module.
No other modules have this module as a prerequisite.
Outline syllabusPossibilities for areas include:
- Further study of: Medical Statistics; Time Series; Multivariate Analysis.
- Introductions to: Extreme Values; Queueing Theory, Spatial Processes, Non-parametric and Semi-parametric methods.
- To allow well-qualified students, who have already demonstrated good knowledge of the material in core or optional units, or for whom it is educationally appropriate, to study another area of statistics.
- Students will benefit from learning to work on their own, or in very small groups, and mastering non-standard areas through project work.
Teaching will usually be by directed reading, with discussion of the reading and appropriate problems in tutorials.
